Government delivers RD$60 million to Constanza garlic producing associations

The Dominican government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, delivered RD$60 million yesterday to associations of garlic producers in Constanza, in order to support national agricultural production.

The Minister of Agriculture, Limber Cruz, indicated that the subsidy will be RD$3,000 per quintal for garlic planting, with a figure, to date, of 20,000 quintals.

For this year, it is expected to exceed 5,000 tasks of land planted, to later achieve self-sufficiency in garlic; since the commitment of the government headed by President Luis Abinader is to support the production of garlic and thus guarantee the supply of the Dominican population.

Humberto Collado, spoke on behalf of the different Garlic Associations of Constanza and expressed his and each producer’s commitment to supplying garlic at a low cost to the consumer.

For his part, the director of Banco Agrícola, Fernando Durán, affirmed that through the entity he directs, producers have been supported with the financing of loans and the acquisition of seeds.

In the activity, the holder of the agricultural portfolio was accompanied, in addition to the administrator of Banco Agrícola, Fernando Durán; the general director of the Price Stabilization Institute (Inespre), Iván Hernández; Oliverio Espaillat, advisor to the Ministry of Agriculture; as well as representatives of the various garlic associations of Constanza.
