The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Francisco Camacho, following the instructions of President Luis Abinader, announced this Wednesday the amounts of the economic incentives that Dominican athletes who win gold, silver and bronze medals will receive in the Central American and Caribbean Games that begin this Friday in San Salvador.
“The President of the Republic has authorized us to announce to the country, 48 hours before the start of the international competition, the delivery of financial rewards for Dominican athletes who win medals at the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador” , reported the official in a press document.
In that order, he revealed that athletes in individual sports who obtain a gold medal will receive an economic incentive of 150,000 pesos; those who achieve silver will get 100,000 pesos and those who reach the bronze medal will get 75,000 pesos.
Likewise, the minister added, and regarding team sports, those who win gold will be awarded 1,100,000 pesos; those who achieve a silver medal 650,000 pesos and those who obtain a bronze medal 500,000 pesos.
“The coaches (individually and by teams) who get gold will receive 100,000 pesos; 75,000 will be given to those who win the silver medal, and 50,000 pesos to those who win bronze,” Camacho said.
Camacho explained that in the case of athletes and coaches who win more than one medal, the highest value medal will be taken into account for award purposes.
He indicated that, once again, the Government of Luis Abinader stands next to its athletes and coaches when it comes to providing them with economic incentives, since in the past Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, 12 million pesos were given to the winners of gold medal, eight million to those who achieved silver and six million to those who obtained bronze.
This Tuesday, President Luis Abinader delivered the national flag to the Dominican delegation that will participate in the XXlV Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023 at the Presidential Palace.
In those games, the country will host seven sports: taekwondo, equestrian, racquetball, modern pentathlon, field hockey, canoeing and clay pigeon shooting.
The Dominican delegation that will travel to El Salvador and will perform in the country is made up of 680 people, of which 477 are athletes.
Of these athletes, 205 are female and 272 male. A total of 393 will travel to El Salvador, (173 women and 221 men). In Santo Domingo, 84 athletes (33 women and 51 men) will compete.
