Gorillas closes in Spain

The online supermarket Gorillas has decided to end its operations in Spain. The company’s results in 2022 are not being very positive and its operations have ceased to be profitable in some locations. The news has been waiting for several months, but it was not until this week that the newspaper Information has obtained a confirmation through a source.

On May 24, the company first announced its intention to leave Spain and lay off 300 workers. The CEO took the opportunity on that occasion to communicate what the company’s new objectives were:

  • We will increase our investments in our main markets: Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, France and the United States.., where we obtain 90% of our income and we are on a clear trajectory of profitability. For Italy, Spain, Denmark and Belgium, very attractive markets in their own right, we are exploring all possible strategic options for the Gorillas brand.
  • We will focus on our customers and our brand.
  • We will strengthen our global headquarters by refocusing our presence on Berlinto our new office in Germany.

Getir negotiates the purchase of Gorillas

fast grocery delivery company Getir is in advanced negotiations to acquire one of its main rivals Gorillas. This move represents further consolidation in an industry that consumes a lot of money and that gained strength during the pandemic.
