Google is improving the experience for all smartwatch users by optimizing how WearOS works.
It looks like the operating system will soon get a long-desired feature: portable data backup.
Google will add backup capability to WearOS
More and more users are using a smart watch on a daily basis and, consequently, there are more and more models available on the market. This is therefore a growing segment.
And Google is no stranger to these facts and has been improving WearOS, the operating system for wearables in the Android universe. Now it looks like it’s getting ready to add another feature that users have wanted for a long time.
According to the XDA-Developers website, Google Play Services app beta version 22.32.12 reveals that a smartwatch data backup feature will be included in Wear OS.
In that app, the website found the following instructions: “Back up your device with Google One/ Google One Backup/ Choose a backup account.” This is a clear indication that Google will finally listen to users and fulfill this crucial need.
Remember that, at this time, all users who acquire a new smartphone have to pair it, as if it were the first time, with the smartwatch they already have. And what is worse, they are forced to factory reset the wearable device. Now, the addition of this new feature would avoid doing this whole process, making the life of smartwatch users much easier.
The WearOS camera app will also have news
But Google isn’t just adding functionality to WearOS. Other related news reports that the search giant is also improving some of the apps built into the operating system.
More specifically, the camera app that is undergoing a redesign that follows the guidelines of Material You.
Now the app allows immediate access to camera and timer options through an icon located at the top. Also, the shutter button has a new location, now at the bottom, and the zoom controls have been moved to the right, appearing in the form of a slider.
