Google Unveils Gemini App for iPad, Boosting AI-Powered Digital Assistance on Apple Devices

Google has taken a significant step in expanding its AI-powered digital assistant, Gemini, to Apple devices. The company recently launched the Gemini app for iPad, following its introduction on iPhone. This move brings Gemini’s advanced AI capabilities to Apple’s iOS ecosystem, offering users a more integrated experience.

The iPad version of Gemini leverages the device’s larger screen, allowing for split-screen functionality. This enables users to access the AI assistant on one side while using other apps on the other, enhancing productivity and convenience. Gemini on iPad also boasts several powerful features, including Gemini Live, which supports natural conversations in over 45 languages. Deep Research generates reports and gathers information quickly, saving users time. Audio Overview easily processes and understands audio files, while Canvas uses AI to help edit documents and write code. It can create a range of visual content, from compelling images to videos directly on the iPad.

Expanding Gemini’s Reach

Google initially released the Gemini app for iPhone in November 2024, aiming to broaden its AI assistant’s user base within the iOS ecosystem. While iPhone users can already access most of Gemini’s features through various apps, it’s still uncertain whether the iPad version will offer the same level of seamless integration. Meanwhile, Google is working to roll out Gemini updates to Android devices, with the goal of replacing Google Assistant entirely.

The Gemini app for iPad is available for download on the App Store. Google may unveil additional AI features at its Google I/O 2025 conference, scheduled for May 20-21, 2025, in San Francisco, California.
