Google Unveils Christmas Shopping Game-Changers

Technology giant Google is set to introduce several new tools to make shopping easier and more efficient, particularly during the holiday season. These tools are designed to offer consumers a more personalized and streamlined shopping experience both online and in-store.

Using Google Lens for In-Store Shopping

Google Lens, which processes around 20 billion visual searches per month, 20% of which are shopping-related, can now provide consumers with product information, similar products, price comparisons, and user reviews when shopping in-store. This feature is accessible by taking a photo of the product and leveraging Google’s advanced image recognition technology. Initially, the feature will be available for beauty products, toys, and electronics in stores that share their local inventory with Google.

Finding Products Locally with Google Maps

In addition to the in-store features, Google Maps will now allow users to search for products and discover nearby stores that carry them. This feature makes it easier for consumers to find what they need during the holiday season, from gifts to household items.

Enhanced Payment Security and Flexibility

Furthermore, Google is expanding its payment features to provide consumers with more flexibility and security when making transactions. The company has introduced “buy now, pay later” options with partners like Affirm, Zip, and Afterpay, with Klarna set to join the list. Additionally, Google is protecting user information by introducing virtual cards, which hide credit card numbers during online transactions, for Discover cardholders in the US.
