Google throws a new spike at Apple with the introduction of the Pixel 7

The long-awaited “Made by Google” presentation introduced us to a new range of Android smartphones, smartwatches, Bluetooth headsets, and even a new IoT home tablet coming in 2023.

It was the perfect opportunity to learn about the latest advances and designs from Google, taking advantage of the North American technology company to throw tricks at its rival Apple.

Although the highlight falls, and with all merit, on the Google Pixel 7 and its new (beautiful) smart watch, Google left some more messages for Apple.

It is an old rivalry that found in the RCS communications standard (the new SMS’s) a perfect motivation for this “blame” game between companies.

The scenario of the new Pixel 7 was used by Google to tip Apple

The effort to adopt the RCS communications standard, the new text SMS, which now works in a similar way to what we find, for example, in WhatsApp, has been one of Google’s bastions.

The new format allows us, for example, to react (with emojis) to messages received on our mobile phone, which has been present in the Android universe for several months. However, Apple refuses to open its iMessage system and platform to such a request.

At the same time, Apple continues to promote its proprietary service, as Tim Cook recently pointed out. However, Google believes that the RCS standard will be the future of text communications on any operating system.

The Made by Google 2022 event brought us new products and old rivalries

It was indeed on stage that Google openly criticized Apple for not adopting, nor intending, the RCS or Rich communication services standard to improve the experience of using text messages, SMS.

It is important to note, however, the subtleties of the presentation. Google’s speech never mentioned Apple by name, but the express reference to “that company” leaves no room for doubt. The message was given to Tim Cook’s company, Google’s great rival.

By the way, we remember Tim Cook’s recent response to a journalist who asked him about such a hypothesis, to which Cook replied “it is better to buy an iPhone”, referring to the communication difficulties between the Android and iOS operating systems.

In short, although both platforms currently converge on several points, we will still have aspects in which, predictably, we will not fully agree. For now, Google’s statement is totally ignored by Tim Cook’s company.
