Google, Spotify, and YouTube Down: Global Outage Hits Thousands of Users

A massive outage hit the internet, taking down major apps like Google, Spotify, and YouTube. This affected tens of thousands of users worldwide. The issue started around 12:30 PM UTC and spread quickly across different regions.

Downdetector reported over 13,000 issues with Google Cloud, 27,000 with Spotify, and 559 with YouTube. Google Cloud’s status page showed problems with 13 services in areas like America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.

Other online services like Discord, Amazon Web Services, Twitch, Snapchat, PlayStation Network, Fortnite, Xbox Live, and Call of Duty servers were also impacted.

The problem began with Cloudflare, a major network provider, going down. This caused a ripple effect, impacting various platforms differently.

As of the morning after, YouTube was partially back up but still experiencing issues. ChatGPT, also affected, had reports of slow servers and network errors.

One platform that avoided the outage was X (Twitter), because it uses its own IT system and data center, reducing its reliance on cloud services. This is according to Grok, which noted that X’s approach helped it escape the network outage.
