For Android gaming enthusiasts, there’s exciting news on the horizon. Ahead of the upcoming game developers’ conference, Google has announced that all Android games on smartphones will soon be playable on Google Play Games for PC. This move is particularly significant, given that mobile games have largely caught up with their console and PC counterparts in terms of quality and complexity.
It’s worth noting, however, that game developers will have the option to opt-out of this feature if they so choose. The Google Play Games platform on PC was first introduced in beta form back in 2022, allowing users to play Android games on their computers. Since then, Google has continued to iterate and improve the experience.
In their latest announcement, Google revealed plans to introduce a new badge that will indicate which games are playable on PC, providing players with a clear idea of what to expect. Additionally, the company will provide minimum specs to ensure a smooth gaming experience. This feature bears a resemblance to Steam’s own badge system, which indicates which games are compatible with the Steam Deck.
Google is also investing heavily in bringing popular PC games to the Google Play Games PC platform. According to a Google executive, there are already over 50 PC games available on the platform, with plans to launch a program later this year that will make it easier for PC game developers to port their titles to Google Play Games PC.
