Google has not yet officially launched its smartphones in Portugal. But these still deserve our attention, as they are the purest representation of Android that exists in the mobile segment.
For the first time, in 2021, Google released the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro with its own processor. And after this big step, the next generation may arrive with a front camera and other sensors under the screen.
Google Pixel 7 Pro with under-screen camera is a possibility
This possibility was discovered by LetsGoDigital through a recently issued patent. This was registered on August 31, 2021 at the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office), and published on December 16.
This patent shows us that, in addition to the front camera, the components with the proximity sensor and the brightness sensor will need to be housed under the panel for a full screen experience.
The first smartphone to hit the market with this technology dates from 2020. It was the ZTE Axon 20 5G, whose questionable quality of that front camera made it a failure.
The long-awaited Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 was launched in 2021 with this same technology, but unfortunately for global fans it is an exclusive smartphone for the Chinese market. The foldable Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 also came with an under-display front camera, and in this article you can read my opinion about it.
It will be very interesting to see to what extent Google can improve a feature that is so desired in smartphones, but does not yet seem mature enough to implement it in all models.
