Google’s Pixel 10 line has driven the company to its highest monthly smartphone sales growth ever in the United States, signaling a significant gain in market share within the premium device segment.
The Pixel 10 phones, fully available since late summer, are now competing directly with devices like the iPhone 17 and Samsung Galaxy models. Analysts at Counterpoint Research indicate these new Google smartphones have a strong chance of securing prominent sales figures by year-end.
In September, Counterpoint Research analyzed the American market and found Pixel sales increased by 28% compared to the previous year. This surge represents the highest monthly sales growth ever recorded for Pixel phones.
Google’s share in the U.S. smartphone market for devices priced above $600 reached 6.1% in September. This marks a substantial rise from just 0.1% in the same period last year.
Google has historically held a marginal position in the smartphone market, despite developing Android. This trend began to shift with its earlier Nexus line. The Pixel 10’s success now leverages a premium brand image that Google has carefully cultivated over time.
The sharp increase in market share comes with a contextual nuance. In September 2022, Google’s catalog included only one model, the Pixel 6 Pro, that met the over-$600 price point, and the Pixel 7 had not yet launched.
All current Pixel 10 models are priced above $600, contributing significantly to the premium segment’s growth figures.
Google supported the Pixel 10 launch with an extensive advertising campaign. This campaign specifically highlighted the artificial intelligence capabilities of its new devices.
While Apple relies on different marketing strategies, its iPhone 17 still saw strong sales during the same period. Analysts suggest it will take many years and new generations of devices for Google to truly challenge Apple and Samsung comprehensively in the global market.
