Google has introduced Mixboard, an artificial intelligence-powered platform designed to accelerate and simplify the initial visual brainstorming and mood board creation process for creative professionals.
The new tool aims to help users overcome the common challenge of having many ideas that are scattered or spending significant time searching for references to build clear mood boards.
Mixboard, launched via Google Labs, empowers users to quickly create, explore, expand, and refine concepts using a board that combines both images and text.
Unlike traditional image boards, Mixboard generates visual ideas automatically from user prompts, eliminating the need for users to maintain their own extensive image libraries.
Users can employ simple English commands to modify images, such as altering styles or adding new elements.
The platform also includes “Regenerate” and “More like this” buttons, making it easy to generate additional options or explore new creative directions. Users can also upload their own images to integrate and further customize their boards.
Mixboard leverages Google’s new image editing model, Nano Banana, to facilitate these quick visual adjustments.
The tool is primarily focused on early-stage idea generation and visual concepting, rather than replacing professional image editing software. The quality of the output is heavily dependent on the clarity and specificity of the English-language prompts provided by the user.
For example, a user could prompt Mixboard for ideas for a board game café, and the AI would generate overall visual concepts and elements. These elements could then be individually clicked and refined with further prompts.
This approach differs from platforms like Pinterest, where users typically search for pre-existing images and often need to use separate software for adjustments. Google has indicated that it plans to add more features to Mixboard in the future to enhance the mood board creation experience.
