Google Maps Now Shows Live Tesla Supercharger Availability

Google Maps has integrated real-time availability data for Tesla’s Superchargers, significantly enhancing convenience for electric vehicle drivers worldwide.

This new functionality makes it much easier for all electric vehicles relying on Tesla Superchargers to locate and plan charging stops.

The update marks a notable collaboration between Google and Tesla, companies that have not always aligned closely in their philosophies.

Tesla confirmed that Google Maps is now officially incorporating its real-time charging availability information directly from the automaker.

Users will see this data displayed within an icon on the location information tab in Google Maps, indicating charging speed and current availability.

The information tab will show the maximum number of chargers at a location, along with the number currently in use, presented as a fraction.

For locations offering various charger types, the system will display availability for each speed category.

This new availability indicator is accessible across all Google Maps platforms, including Android, Android Auto, iOS, and directly on the integrated screen within Tesla vehicles.

Within a Tesla vehicle, the real-time availability counter will be visible on the central front display.

Tesla also indicated that “predicted availability” is a future development. It remains unconfirmed whether this advanced feature will be offered through Google Maps or exclusively via Tesla’s proprietary trip planning application.

Google Maps already incorporates various real-time readings, such as popular wait time cards for restaurants and other busy venues. Tesla charging points previously showed similar cards, but this information was not directly sourced from the manufacturer.
