Google improves its review system with its new update

Google brings news regarding its algorithm. The product reviews update or update product reviews become reviews update. In this way, it alters the language in multiple parts of its guidance documentation around product reviews so that it now applies to all types of reviews.

With this big change, the company reformulates its article on how to write high quality reviews in multiple places. Thus, it provides guidance on product reviews to simply apply to all kinds of reviews, just with more generic language. So it will promote good practices in the valuation not only of products or services, it will also include businesses, tourist destinations, books, movies, video games…

Review content that goes beyond basic information

The review system works to ensure that reviews are written in a way that integrates in-depth analysis and original research, rather than simple content that just sums up a bunch of products and services. In this way, reviews written by experts or experts on the subject will be rewarded.

On the other hand, Google will reduce relevance to lower quality content that show little content without providing greater value or depth. Your ranking will be positioned below other content with higher qualityand of course it will be perceived as a penalty in positioning.

Recommended Good Practices

In addition to this, it also provides a series of recommended good practices:

  • Evaluate from the user’s perspective.
  • Demonstrate that you are well informed about what you are reviewing.
  • Provide evidence such as images, audio or other links from your own experience with what you are reviewing, to support your experience and reinforce the authenticity of your review.
  • Share quantitative measures of how something measures up in various performance categories.
  • Explain what differentiates something from its competitors.
  • Cover comparable things to consider or explain which might be better for certain uses or circumstances.
  • Discuss the benefits and drawbacks of something, based on your own original research.
  • Describe how a product has evolved from previous models or versions to provide enhancements, address issues, or help users make a purchasing decision.
  • Focus on the most important decision-making factors, based on your experience or knowledge (for example, a car review might determine fuel economy and safety as key decision-making factors and rate performance on those areas).
  • Describe the key choices in how a product has been designed and their effect on users beyond what the manufacturer says.
  • Include links to other useful resources (yours or other sites) to help the reader make a decision.
  • Consider including links to multiple sellers to give the reader the option to buy from their merchant of choice.
  • When recommending something as the best overall or the best for a certain purpose, include why it is considered the best, with first-hand supporting evidence.
  • Check that there is enough useful content in your ranked listings for them to stand out on their own, even if you choose to write separate individual detailed reviews.
