Google Gemini Can Now Summarize YouTube Video Content for Users

Google’s Gemini AI model is making it easier to get the gist of YouTube videos. The new feature lets you summarize video content in a few simple steps. This is a game-changer for anyone who wants to quickly grasp the main points of a video without watching it from start to finish.

To use this feature, you’ll need to set up Gemini on your desktop or mobile device. Here’s how:

  • Log in to your Google account and go to https://gemini.google.com/
  • Click on the menu on the left and select Settings > App
  • Scroll down and enable YouTube integration

On the Gemini mobile app, tap your profile picture, select App, and toggle on YouTube.

Once you’ve set up Gemini, you can start summarizing videos:

  1. Copy the URL of the YouTube video you want to summarize
  2. Paste the link into Gemini’s prompt box
  3. Type “summarize this video” or “summarize briefly”
  4. Gemini will generate a summary of the video’s key points

How it works

Gemini pulls data from YouTube’s automatic captions and transcripts to create summaries. This means it only works with videos that have captions, and it’s currently limited to English, Japanese, and Korean.

The feature is not just limited to video summaries. You can also use Gemini to search for songs on YouTube by specifying song titles, albums, artists, playlists, or genres.
