Google follows in Apple’s footsteps and will remove thousands of apps from the Play Store

Apparently, Google will go the same way as Apple and remove thousands of outdated apps from its Play Store.

The decision of the North American giant could reduce the number of existing applications in that store by about a third.

Google will remove 869,000 apps from the Play Store

Google will remove obsolete apps for more than two years

According to information published by the CNET website, Google will follow the same path as Apple and remove outdated apps from the Play Store. But while the Cupertino company removed approximately 650,000 applications, Google will have to remove no less than 869,000 apps.

According to the same technology information site, Google is preparing everything to hide these applications until the developers update the products. Such a measure will make it impossible for users to download these applications.

The decision of both companies is due to exactly the same reason, which is user safety. Older and less up-to-date apps don’t take advantage of the latest Android and iOS optimizations, new APIs, or the stricter protection that exists now.

The immediate consequence is that these older applications may experience security issues that updated applications do not.

For their part, the programmers have already been against the decision of the North American giant to eliminate apps with more than two years of existence, saying that the measure is not fair.

But despite all the protests, Google seems willing to follow through on its decision, as does Apple.

On the other hand, with Android 13 there are also new permissions for applications that, from now on, will be more controlled by the user. For example, they will need user authorization to even send notifications.

The Messages app has also been improved and now group conversations will also be end-to-end encrypted, similar to what already happens with conversations with a single contact.

A list of smartphones eligible for the Android 13 beta has also been released, including Pixel, Xiaomi, OPPO, Realme smartphones, among other brands. You can consult it prepared to confirm if your smartphone can test the new Android 13.
