Google’s latest update to Workspace is a game-changer for video content. Now, you can quickly summarize video files stored in Google Drive using Gemini, a AI-powered tool. This feature was previously only available for documents and PDFs.
To use it, simply double-click on a video file in Google Drive, then click the “Ask Gemini” button (represented by a star icon) in the top-right corner. This opens a chat window where you can ask Gemini to summarize the video content or extract key information. You can even ask specific questions or plan tasks based on the video, like summarizing a meeting or outlining new product features. This saves you time and effort, as you no longer need to watch the entire video.
This feature works best with videos that have automatic captions enabled. However, if the video lacks captions or has poor audio, the summary may not be accurate. You can access this feature through the overlay previewer on Google Drive or by opening the file in a new browser tab. Currently, it’s only available in English for Google Workspace and Google One AI Premium users, as well as those with Gemini Business or Enterprise add-ons. It’s expected to roll out fully in the next 2-3 weeks.
Google has also introduced another feature called Engagement Data on Workspace, which displays video engagement metrics on Drive. Users can view the number of times a video has been opened through the Analytics section in the Details panel. This helps measure the video’s effectiveness.
