Google could offer software updates for the Pixel 8 for 5 years

Pixel's January patch brings spatial audio and other improvements

If there’s one thing that Apple does extremely well with its iPhones and iPads, it’s software updates. The company has typically been supporting its products much longer than the average Android phone maker, but now it looks like Google is catching up.

According to a report by 9to5Google, Google could offer software updates for its Pixel 8 phones powered by its Tensor chipsets for up to five years.

That would be a longer term than what Google currently offers, which is just three years, and longer than Samsung, which offers four years of updates.

It would also essentially put Google on a par with Apple, where Apple’s iPhone XS, which launched with iOS 12 five years ago, in 2018, will still get the upcoming iOS 17 update. This is great news for potential owners. by Pixel who Don’t plan on buying a new phone every once in a while.

So if you’re looking to buy a new Android phone and software updates are important to you, maybe your next phone should be a Google Pixel.
