Google has decided to slightly retouch the design of Google Chrome on the latest Canary version, the version reserved for developers. Against all expectations, the new style of the browser is very similar to Windows 11. Google’s stated desire to harmonize Chrome with the next version of the OS.
As you know, the final and stable version of Windows 11 arrives this Tuesday, October 5, 2021. Before D-Day, Microsoft made sure to correct as many bugs as possible, in the hope of a smooth launch. At the same time, Google wanted to make some changes to the design of Google Chrome, in anticipation of the debut of Windows 11.
For the sake of harmony with the new OS, the Mountain View firm has retouched certain elements of the design of its browser. In any case, this is revealed to us by the latest version of Chrome Canary, the version reserved for developers. The changes are minimal, but they have the merit of making Google Chrome look like Windows 11.
First, the context menus benefit from a redesign. Windows have rounded corners and Google also added drop shadow effects. We also note the appearance of an experimental functionality of which activation makes browser context menus transparent.

No performance issues with the new Windows 11 design
These are the only changes made to the design of Chrome. They are minimal, you will agree, but they have the merit of existing and of preparing the browser for the arrival of Windows 11. Microsoft has also confirmed that applications using new design elements from Windows 11 will not affect the performance of the operating system. In other words, rounded corners, drop shadow effects, and all the other new design things to come won’t slow down the OS.
As a reminder, Microsoft is betting on new visual codes and new effects with Windows 11. This is why the Redmond firm launched Mica, brand new design material, which responds to two key words: standardization and transparency. During a question-and-answer session, Microsoft wanted to be reassuring: no, the new design of Windows 11 will not slow down your PC’s performance.
“Performance is really our top priority and we make sure that all these new features (Mica and rounded edges) are very fast and don’t impact the OS. For the rounded corners, we have optimized our rendering technology and you should not notice any difference with the classic corners ”, Microsoft guaranteed.
