Turn your old PC into a Chromebook or Chromebox with Google’s new free tool

Google has just announced a new free tool, called Chrome OS Flex, that has the ability to turn your old PC or Mac into a modern Chromebook or Chromebox. Users can install Chrome OS Flex through the USB port or over the network. In the case of the first option, the device will need to be booted directly from the USB drive.
The new tool is compatible with Windows and Mac environments, works with computers up to a decade old, and with x86 from Intel or AMD, but not ARM. But here we summarize the minimum requirements to use the new Google tool:
Flexible features of Google Chrome OS
The company announced Chrome OS Flex as a “free downloadable operating system” and integrated the same “CloudReady benefits in a new version of Chrome OS”, advances Google.
In this sense, Chrome OS Flex comes with the same user interface, Chrome browser, features and integrations between Android devices, cloud synchronization and Google Assistant, as in current Chromebook models.
It should be noted that for now it is not expected that the Play Store will be added or that support for Android applications will also be included. It’s also important to note that Chrome OS Flex does not have a Google Security Chip for Verified Release or, alternatively, a Trusted Platform Module (TPM).
In any case, it is still a very useful tool that can give a second life to older computers that are almost forgotten.
