Google Assistant: you say Stop and the virtual assistant shuts up… but not forever

Google has been working to simplify the voice commands of its virtual assistant and is now removing the need to “get attention” from the software.

As soon as you say Stop, Google Assistant turns off and only returns “to the conversation” when it’s activated again.

Simplified commands to use a single word with the Google Assistant

📣 New useful Google Assistant feature alert! Do you want your smart display or speaker to stop talking? Just say “stop” – no #Hello Google necessary.

It is public knowledge that since October 2021, Google has been simplifying voice commands, recognized by its virtual assistant. And here we have reached a moment that many users were eagerly waiting for.

Now all you have to do is say the word Stop for Google Assistant to shut up and immediately stop with all the information it’s uploading. This means that it is no longer necessary to use phrases like “Ok Google” to get the attention of the virtual assistant.

Best of all, even if the Conversation Continued option is active, as soon as the word Stop is said, the assistant obeys and remains silent.

This is a long-awaited feature by users, as it allows you to disable Google Assistant when accidentally activated or end up with weather forecasts that are sometimes too long and detailed.

For now, the new Google functionality only works with the English language

But there is no beauty without a drawback, and in this case, the drawback is that Google Assistant’s Stop command only works on monitors and speakers at the moment. It is expected that soon smartphones, tablets and other equipment will receive such a practical and useful function.

On the other hand, it is also important to note that the command is only available in English. In other words, the word to use is really Stop, it cannot be another.

Google is still in the initial phase of this process of simplifying voice commands and, therefore, it is understandable that for now it is focused on a single language and that words are used that, in some way, are universal, such as the stop case.
