Luis Liberato and Yamaico Navarro combined to make three runs in the eleventh inning in the victory for the Gigantes del Cibao, breaking a tie against the Estrellas Orientales this Wednesday at the Tételo Vargas Stadium in the continuation of the All Against All of the Dominican League of baseball.
The four teams have already played in 11 games in these semifinals and the results of this Wednesday’s matchday leave Gigantes del Cibao 6-5, Tigres del Licey 6-5, Aguilas Cibaeñas 5-6 and Estrellas Orientales 5-6.
The meeting is the first of the four that these two teams have faced where the Giants are victorious, (1-3).
The match was commanded by pitching, a total of 18 pitchers were used, 9 for each team.
Veteran Jorge Martínez (0-2, 7.88), was the starter for Gigantes, allowed three hits, one run, one walk and two strikeouts in three and two-thirds innings pitched. Enmanuel Ramírez (3-0, 1.23), earned his third win and Fernando Rodney earned his fourth save this postseason
Phillips Valdez (0-1, 4.35), with a good start for the Orientals, worked in four and two thirds, six hits, one run, one walk and one strikeout. Stephen Tarpley (1-1,9.00) took the loss.
The Giants scored first in the fourth inning with a single to left field, Yamaico Navarro scores.
The greens responded in the lower half, Robinson Canó connected with a ground ball to right field to tie the actions, 1-1.
In the eleventh inning, Luis Liberato singled high to right field, reached 2nd base on an error by the eastern right fielder and Webster Rivas scored the tiebreaking run, 2-1. Yamaico Navarro in the same inning, hits a grounding single to center field and drives in two more for the Giants, 4-1.
