González achieves silver in the 100 meter dash

José Arnaldo González gave Dominican athletics the first medal of the El Salvador Games by finishing second in the 100-meter dash.

Gonzáles had a time of 10.26 seconds to claim the second place metal, surpassed by Emanuel Archibald, from Guyana, who reached the finish line first with 10.24 seconds, and gave his country the gold and the first medal in the regional event.

Third place went to Rikkoi Brathwaite of the British Virgin Islands, also in 10.26 seconds.

Gonzáles reigned as first in the qualifying round in heat number two, where he completed the course in 10.32 seconds, the second fastest time of the three semifinal rounds of the 100-meter event.

Christopher Valdez, also a Dominican, finished fifth, with a time of 10.45 seconds. The sprinter took third place in the semifinal, with 10.39 seconds in the third qualifying heat, and entered the final as one of the two fastest additional times.

women’s 100 meters

Liranyi Alonso qualified for the final of the 100 meter dash by reaching the finish line in second place in the second heat with a time of 11.58 seconds.

In the semifinal of the 400 meter hurdles, Juander Santos Aquino entered as the best third time, with 49.76 seconds, in heat number two, while Gerald Núñez Mercedes finished in first position in the first heat, covering the distance in 50.13 seconds.

Both Juander and Gerald will be in the final, battling for the medals that the specialty will award this Thursday at 7:20 p.m. (9:20 PM RD time).

In the women’s 400 meter hurdles, Evelyn del Carmen from Dominican Republic failed to reach the final by occupying fifth place in the final, where she had a time of 59.59 seconds.
