Gonçalo Ramos stepped up and scored a crucial penalty in PSG’s dominating 6-1 win over Saint-Étienne. The victory leaves them just one point shy of a fourth consecutive title. But Ramos wasn’t celebrating just yet.
He thought the first half was rough, and downplayed the possibility of winning the title this weekend.
The team didn’t start strong, but managed to gain control later on. Ramos said they’re not thinking about being champions just yet, they’re focused on recovery and getting back home. He doubted they’d even get to watch the Monaco-Nice game on the plane.
Ramos talked about the team’s national invincibility this season. He said they don’t think about it too much, but it would be amazing if they could keep it up. After a break, it was important to have a good game, since they hadn’t trained together in two weeks.
Ramos praised teammate Doué, who scored twice. “You saw the game, what can I say? He’s magnificent, plays really well, and has great technique.”
This week, Ramos will face his old youth coach Luís Castro, now with Dunkerque, in the French Cup semifinals. He’s excited to see his old coach and catch up. The focus is on that game, not the title just yet.
