Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber each attended the Academy Museum Gala 2025 on October 18. Their separate appearances came hours after publicly addressing ongoing speculation about their perceived drama over beauty brands.
Gomez, 33, arrived at the charity event with her husband, Benny Blanco. This marked their first red carpet appearance together since their marriage late last month.
Gomez and Blanco, 37, wore coordinating Armani ensembles. Blanco sported a midnight blue velvet suit with a matching silk shirt. Gomez chose a custom Armani Privé black dress featuring a crystal-embellished bodice and a matching velvet jacket draped over her shoulders. The Only Murders in the Building actress accessorized with De Beers jewelry, a plum lipstick, and a matching manicure, with her dark hair styled in an elegant updo.
Bieber, 28, later walked the red carpet alongside her friend Kendall Jenner. Bieber wore a strapless, chocolate-colored Schiaparelli dress with a transparent corset. She accessorized with Tiffany & Co. earrings and rings, complementing Jenner’s black gown.
The gala attendance followed recent public comments by both women regarding their beauty brands. Shortly before the red carpet, Gomez responded to Bieber’s remarks about comparisons between their companies.
"Leave the girl alone. She can say whatever she wants," Gomez wrote in a now-deleted Instagram Story message, according to screenshots obtained by various outlets. "It doesn’t affect my life at all. It’s about relevance, not intelligence." She urged fans to "be kind."
Gomez added, "All brands inspire me [and] there is room for everyone, and hopefully we can all stop."
Bieber had been asked in a Wall Street Journal profile if her brand, Rhode Skin, directly competed with Gomez’s Rare Beauty. That interview was published earlier this week.
"It’s always annoying for me to be pitted against other people. I didn’t ask for that," Bieber told the publication. "When people want to see you a certain way and a story has already been invented about you, it’s not up to you to change that."
Fans have speculated for years about a feud between Gomez and Hailey Bieber, stemming from their past and present relationships with Justin Bieber. Gomez dated Justin, 31, intermittently from 2009 to 2018. Justin began dating Hailey following his final breakup with Gomez.
"What if Hailey ends up being the girl I’m going to marry, right? If I rush into something, if I hurt her, that will always be affected," Justin previously told GQ in March 2016. "It’s so hard to heal wounds like that. It’s so hard. … I just don’t want to hurt her."
Justin and Hailey, who married in September 2018, along with Gomez, have consistently denied viral rumors of an overlap in their relationships.
"It’s hard for me to talk about this because I don’t want to speak for either of them, as it was their relationship," Hailey said on the "Call Her Daddy" podcast in 2022. "Honestly, I deeply respect him, but I know what was happening when we got back together." She continued, "And I know what had to happen for that to happen in a healthy way, and I think it was the healthiest and most mature decision he could make and I respect it."
Hailey and Justin welcomed their first child, Jack Blues, in August 2024.
