Mel Owens and Peg Munson have confirmed their relationship following the conclusion of “The Golden Bachelor,” but they are not rushing into an engagement. The couple made their current status public during the ‘After the Final Rose’ special on Wednesday, November 12.
Peg, 62, emphasized that their age allows them to define their own love story. She told host Jesse Palmer, “That’s a love story the way we’re living it.”
She added that they are focused on growing their love and sharing time with their families. This approach, she noted, is a benefit of being in their "golden years."
Mel, 66, and Peg unequivocally stated they are "in love." However, they declined to provide specific details about any upcoming proposal plans.
Mel shared his excitement about their connection, which has developed since the show wrapped filming. He said, “I saw our love grow all the time.”
He specifically praised Peg’s energetic personality. “Something I love about her is her energy and that go-get-‘em attitude,” Mel stated.
The couple has several significant trips planned for the immediate future. These include visits to Las Vegas, Michigan, and attendance at the Super Bowl.
They will also enjoy a romantic getaway to Napa Valley, provided courtesy of ABC.
Jesse Palmer praised the couple’s journey. He concluded that their story is about "finding love and bringing families together."

Mel ultimately chose Peg after Cindy, 60, opted to leave the competition. Cindy expressed concerns that Mel might not be ready for marriage.
Mel began his journey as the second season’s Golden Bachelor in September. He initially narrowed his choices to Peg and Cindy.
Reflecting on his connection with Cindy, Mel previously told Us Weekly that she was “always outgoing and direct.” He described her as “passionate, compassionate, and brilliant,” even joking about ending the show after her exit.
Regarding Peg, Mel found her “very energetic.” He admitted he was curious to see if her feelings for him were genuine. Mel felt he "had to pull it out" of her.
Mel also revealed he used a pro/con list to help make his final decision. He typically processes such thoughts mentally but found writing them down insightful.
He explained he wanted to list his initial impressions. These included "the good, the bad, the neutral" aspects of each woman.
The list did not change his mind, but it helped him visualize his feelings. He acknowledged the difficulty of the decision.
Mel explained that he followed his intuition. He felt a stronger "magnetism" pulling him toward one person.
The Bachelor also teased the finale’s emotional intensity. He described the ending as “so brilliant” and full of "movement, twists, and turns."

Mel was previously married to Fabiana Owens for nearly two decades. They have two children together.
Their marriage ended when Fabiana fell in love with someone else. Mel stated he would "never stand in the way of someone’s happiness."
He added that he prioritized his children during that time. He allowed things to resolve naturally, demonstrating patience and understanding.
