Gmail shows real-time package tracking

With the holiday season fast approaching, it won’t be long before inboxes are filling up with more order and shipping confirmations, tracking numbers, and even the occasional delay notification. For this reason, Gmail is introducing new features to help users save time and stay on top of every send.

So in the coming weeks, when we’re reviewing the email list, Gmail will display a simple and helpful view of your package’s tracking and delivery information right in your inbox.

Orders with tracking number

For orders with tracking numbers, Gmail will prominently display your current delivery status in your inbox list view and in a summary card at the top of individual emails. This label will be updated with important information such as the estimated date and status of arrival, such as “Label created”, “Arriving tomorrow” or “Delivered today”.

This function will save online shoppers many extra steps, as consumers typically have to open their order confirmation emails and then copy and paste the tracking information into the appropriate carrier system, into Google, or click on a link provided to start tracking the order. Now all they have to do is check their inbox. Gmail will automatically look up order statuses using tracking numbers and display them in your inbox.

order delays

On the other hand, in the coming months to know that the order was delayed, Google will expand the package tracking function to update proactively a delay tag and bring the email to the top of your inbox of users to make sure they are aware.
