Global Chip Crisis: Is There Hope On The Horizon? Qualcomm says yes

The global component shortage crisis has already prompted many brands like Apple and Samsung to change their business strategies.

Now, the CEO of Qualcomm has gone public to share a message of hope, saying the crisis could ease next year.

Qualcomm CEO says chip crisis could ease in 2022

Cristiano Amon, CEO of Qualcomm, believes that in 2022 the crisis of shortage of components will affect the market less

The global crisis of shortage of components has affected the most varied business areas, and the consumer electronics market has felt its consequences strongly. Several leading brands in this market, such as Apple and Samsung, have already been forced to review and change their business strategies to deal with component shortages.

But there seems to be a ray of hope for the future. At least to believe the words of the CEO of Qualcomm, which have already been released, and which convey an optimistic and hopeful message.

Elec’s website shared a memo from Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon in which he says the chip shortage appears to be decreasing and the situation should improve over the next year.

In the words of Amon: “the offer has improved this year compared to 2020 and the situation is expected to improve even more in 2022, especially compared to 2020.” For the CEO of Qualcomm, the global chip crisis appears to be slowing down and, soon, the market may reflect an improvement over previous years.

But there are those who are not so optimistic and see the future with some reserve, as is the case of Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger. In statements made public on December 2, this official faces the future with some skepticism and assures that the global chip crisis must continue until 2023.

Arm CEO Simon Segars has also gone public by showing his disbelief at a short-term resolution, even stating that the situation must get worse before it gets better.

MediaTek is silent on this matter, but let’s remember that this chipmaker even managed to increase its market share in the midst of the crisis. And, perhaps, this is the reason for his silence on this subject.

Apple, Xiaomi and Samsung have already been affected by the global crisis of shortages of components

Samsung wants to depend less on third-party companies

As we have already mentioned, several brands were forced to change their business plans for 2021, due to the current shortage of components in the market. For example, Samsung plans to increase production of its proprietary Exynos chip to decrease its dependence on third parties.

Apple recently informed its suppliers that it will reduce production of the iPhone 13 by up to 10 million units, due to a lack of components. The production of the model will thus remain below 90 million units this year. However, and in an equally optimistic perspective, the Cupertino company believes that recovery will arrive as early as 2022.

Xiaomi, in turn, has also assumed that it will not be immune to this crisis. At a conference to announce its financial results for the third quarter of 2021, the Chinese brand assumed that its slight drop in market share was directly related to the current shortage of components.
