Global average temperature rise of one and a half degrees is feared

According to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the global average temperature may increase by 1.5 degrees Celsius. The agency warned on Wednesday that warming will be observed within the next five years. But it will not breach the 1.5 percent increase in global warming over pre-industrial levels set by the 2015 Paris Agreement.

Adam Scaife, head of long-term weather forecasting at the UK Met Office, said there was a 66 per cent chance of a 1.5 per cent rise in temperatures by 2027. This is the first time in history that we are so close to a 1.5 percent increase in warming.

Last year it was said that the risk of global warming is 50-50. Part of the warming is due to the El Niño weather pattern. This pattern is expected to develop in the next few months.
