Gisela Pulido passes as fifth classified to the gold group of the World Cup

The Formula Kite World Championship The decisive days will begin this Friday. With the first three days completed, the fleet will enter the second qualifying phase, which will consist of two days of competition, and on Sunday the Medal Series will be held, reserved for the top ten sailors in each category, male and female. Y Spain has serious medal options thanks to Gisela Pulido. The Spaniard has achieved the pass to the gold group of the World Cup that is being played in Cagliari (Italy) distilling quality and good results after two third places, a fourth, a sixth and a seventh. She currently occupies the fifth position with 16 points, one less than the third and fourth classified, the German Leonie Meyer and the British Katie Dabson respectively. Three more days of intense competition now await Pulido and the goal of making a place for himself on the podium is feasible.

The truth is that in Cagliari uncertainty is prevailing because the weather instability is not letting the sailors shine at all. Without going any further, the first day of competition was resolved with four tests completed, but on the second day a storm and the little wind in the afternoon left the fleet without competing. And this Thursday, the women’s class could only add one more regatta and the men’s, two. Gisela Pulido took advantage of the only heat of the day to, with a sixth place, move up a step in the classification and start the last part of the championship from the fifth general position. The first two places are still untouchable, for the moment, because the American Daniela Moroz is the leader with five victories in five races and the second position is for the French Lauriane Nolot (current European champion), with four victories and one second place. As for the other Spanish woman competing in the women’s category, Adelaida Marquenie is in 36th place and is out of the gold group, reserved for the first 25 sailors.

But Spain will also have representation in the men’s gold group. Alejandro Climent managed to stay in 22nd position and made the cut. His goal, to have a place in the Medal Series on Sunday in which only the top ten classified will participate. Bernat Cortés had worse luck, who despite managing to come back three places this Thursday, stood 26th and was only two points away from hunting down the Chinese Qibin Huang (25th) and thus being able to move on to the gold group. As of this Friday, he will continue sailing in the silver group together with fellow Spaniards Jacobo Espi (44th) and Kiko Peiró (54th). Sebastián Ducos (67th) will do it in the bronze. The leader of the men’s fleet is the Slovenian Toni Vodisek with four wins and two seconds.
