Giro d’Italia today, stage 4: schedule, profile and route

First arrival high. This is how the fourth stage of this Giro d’Italia, that offers a beautiful spectacle of 175 km and 3,500 meters of accumulated unevenness, divided mainly between three scoring ports. A favorable day for stage hunters and climbers, which will almost certainly leave two very different scenarios: the fight for the stage and the fight between the men in the general classification.

It’s no secret that Remco Evenepoel will leave today with the clear intention of getting rid of the pink jersey to free your Quick-Step colleagues from responsibility and work. “Stage four may be the day to release the pink jersey,” warned the Belgian as soon as he put on the precious garment with his overwhelming victory in the inaugural time trial. The only question is, will his direct rivals try to put him in trouble?

The first two ascents will add wear and tear and will help the breakaway open a gap. Both, 2nd category: Passo delle Crocelle and Valico di Monte Carruozzo. After the descent of the latter there will be a flat section of about 35 km that will lead to the Final strake: Lake Laceno. Although it will not be one of the most demanding ascents of this edition (9.6 km at 6.2%), it will serve to determine who is up for the general classification and who is not. The first and only time it hosted a stage finish in the Giro was in 2012, when the incombustible Domenico Pozzovivo raised his arms ahead of two Spaniards: Beñat Intxausti and ‘Purito’ Rodríguez.
