Giovanni Simeone would go to Napoli in Italy

Argentine striker Giovanni Simeone will become Napoli’s new reinforcement, after the agreement they reached with Hellas Verona for a loan transfer with charge and purchase option.

The Italian portal Sky Sport reported that after several days of negotiation, Napoli and Hellas Verona agreed on a transfer for three million euros, and a purchase option for 12 of the same currency.

The arrival of “Cholito” Simeone in Napoli also depended on the departure of Andrea Petagna, who will go to the promoted Monza.

Simeone, 27, will make the leap to a team with title contention after a great season at Hellas Verona where he scored 17 goals in 35 games.

Napoli will be the fifth Italian club for Simeone, who passed through Fiorentina, Cagliari, Genoa and Hellas Verona.

The former Banfield and River Plate is the second active Argentine with the most goals in Serie A with 67 goals in 284 games behind Paulo Dybala, who scored 98 in his seven years at Juventus.

In the historical ranking, the son of Diego Simeone, coach of Atlético de Madrid, is in 18th place. Napoli will once again have an Argentine player after the controversial departure of Gonzalo Higuaín to Juventus in 2016.

Simeone will be the 29th in history and the first to play in the stadium that was renamed after Diego Armando Maradona, after the death of the club’s greatest idol in November 2020.
