Gilbert wins 10th. with Seattle, J-Rod, 2 hits, Mazara 3, Padres have dropped 9 of 12

Logan Gilbert got his 10th win to tie for the season lead in the majors, while Sam Haggerty hit his first home run in more than two months and the Seattle Mariners beat the San Diego Padres 6-2 on Tuesday night.

The Mariners, who have posted 12 wins in their last 15 games, swept the two-game series to win their fifth straight series. Seattle (41-42) is within a game of .500 for the first time since May 4.

Haggerty had three hits, Dylan Moore had two doubles and hot rookie Julio Rodriguez had two singles for Seattle. Haggerty and Rodriguez also stole bases—however Moore was caught twice trying to steal the base.

The Padres have lost nine of 12 games.

Gilbert (10-3) allowed one earned run on six hits in 5 1/3 innings. He allowed three walks and struck out to post a 2.61 ERA.

Mike Clevinger (2-1) gave up four runs on six hits in six innings. Given San Diego’s offensive inproductivity, that was enough for the Mariners.

For the Mariners, the Dominicans Rodríguez 5-2 with a run scored and Carlos Santana 4-1. The Venezuelan Eugenio Suárez 5-0.

For the Padres, Dominican Nomar Mazara 4-3 with a double and a run scored. Colombian Jorge Alfaro 1-0.
