The Gigantes del Cibao secured the contract renewal of star player Marcell Ozuna.
The 32-year-old outfielder is the seventh franchise player to sign a contract to remain with the team, joining Moisés Sierra, Edwin Espinal and Carlos Peguero, as well as pitchers Reymin Guduán, Yordy Cabrera and Juan Minaya, who did it a couple of days ago.
The most valuable player of the 2022 season finale series was pleased to stay with the team and expressed how important it is for him and his family to remain a Giant.
The information was released by the general manager Luis -Pipe- Urueta, who took the opportunity to highlight Marcell Ozuna’s identification with the franchise and the city of San Francisco de Macorís.
“It was very easy to sign Marcell Ozuna, without a doubt he is one of the players most identified with the team, he is a leader for his teammates, we know that he wants to be a giant forever,” said Luis Urueta.
In five seasons since he was drafted in 2011, he has accumulated 124 games in the regular series, where he has connected 121 hits, including 26 doubles and 17 home runs, he also has 63 RBIs, his batting average is .256 and an OBP of . 309.
