Giants announce Urueta as new general manager

The Gigantes del Cibao announced Luis “Pipe” Urueta as their new general manager.

The information was offered by the president of the franchise Alfredo Acebal Rizek, who took the opportunity to highlight the capacity of the Colombian Urueta.

“After exhausting the interview process and evaluating the possible management candidates, we made the decision to take Luis Urueta to the general management of our team,” said the executive.

“Pipe is already in his fourth season with us, winning the championship in the 2021-2022 season, he is a man committed to the team, to the fans, to the people, to all the players, we are confident he will do a tremendous job since he knows the strengths and areas to improve, we share the goal and vision of continuing to grow the organization, we know that with him we will be successful”, added President Acebal.

Urueta was assistant to the manager of the Licey in the 2016-17 season when the blue team was crowned national champions.

For the 2017-18 season, he was in charge as manager of Licey, reaching the final series, where they lost in a last and decisive game against Águilas Cibaeñas.

For 2018-19, Urueta served as the manager of the blue team, where they reached second position in the regular series, but could not make it to the final.

With the Gigantes del Cibao he reached two consecutive final series, including the 2021-22 season championship and recently helped the team qualify for the round robin last season.
