the gigantic station of Xiong’An in China has just been completed. A small village of 700 inhabitants was razed to build this monstrous building the size of 66 football fields. A symbol of the expansion of the Chinese railway network.
Xiong’An is a brand new station, the new gem of the Chinese railway, in the east of the country. Over the years, a taxi driver has seen the landscape change. “Before, it was a decrepit village where 700 inhabitants lived, just farmers”, explains this native of the village who was razed to the ground. Now it takes avenues that were once fields. A city will be built around this new station. It will be able to accommodate more than one million inhabitants before 2035. “Only China can do this in such a short time”, starts the driver.
Construction on this massive station, the size of 66 football fields, began in December 2018. It is Asia’s largest station, built in the middle of nowhere. The Chinese high-speed train network is also the largest in the world, with 40,000 kilometers of railways and 500 exclusive stations.
