Gianluigi Buffon Confirms Gennaro Gattuso as New Italy Coach

Gennaro Gattuso is set to become the new coach of Italy’s national team. This news comes from Gianluigi Buffon, Italy’s team manager, after their U21 Euro match against Slovakia.
Buffon said: “We’ve worked hard and are waiting for the final details. It’s been intense, but I think we made the best choice possible.”

Gattuso will replace Luciano Spalletti, who was fired after Italy lost to Norway on June 6. This will be Gattuso’s first time as a national team coach. He has experience coaching teams like Sion, Palermo, and Napoli.

Gattuso was part of Italy’s 2006 World Cup-winning team. Now, he might get help from Leo Bonucci, who currently coaches Italy’s U20 team. Bonucci won the European Championship in 2021. Two former Juventus defenders, Andrea Barzagli and Gianluca Zambrotta, could also join Gattuso’s team. They would help build a stronger connection between Italy’s U21 and main teams.

What’s next for Gattuso?

Gattuso has a big task ahead of him. He needs to lead Italy’s national team to success. With Bonucci, Barzagli, and Zambrotta by his side, he might just do it.

Possible team changes

Some possible changes to the team include:

  • Leo Bonucci as assistant coach
  • Andrea Barzagli and Gianluca Zambrotta as part of the coaching staff
  • A stronger focus on connecting the U21 and main teams

Only time will tell how Gattuso will do as Italy’s new coach. One thing is for sure – he has a lot of experience and a strong team behind him.
