Ghibli-Style AI Images Go Viral, OpenAI Delays Free Version Release

The internet is buzzing with the latest version of OpenAI’s ‘GPT-4o’, which can generate images that are almost too good to be true. People are using it to create pictures in the style of Studio Ghibli, a famous Japanese animation studio. The results are so impressive that they’re being shared all over social media.

Even Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, has changed his profile picture on X to a Ghibli-style image. The response to GPT-4o has been so overwhelming that OpenAI has had to delay the release of its image-generation tool for free ChatGPT users. Altman said, “This tool is more popular than we thought, and we’ll probably have to delay its release for free users for a while.”

For now, GPT-4o is only available to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team members. There’s no word on when it will be available to free users.

However, not everyone is a fan of using AI to generate animations. Hayao Miyazaki, co-founder of Studio Ghibli, has spoken out against it in the past. In 2016, he saw a demo of AI-generated animation and was horrified. He said, “I feel a sense of discomfort. If you want to create something that’s really scary, go ahead. But I never want to use this technology in my work.”
