There are many companies that are experiencing rapid growth, reaching a valuation of close to $1 billion and thus becoming a unicorn company. It was in the year 2013 when the venture capitalist Aileen Lee coined this term. At that time there were only 39 unicorn companies, while today the number has increased to more than 900, according to an analysis carried out by CBInsights.
Most of these companies belong to the technology sector, such as software, FinTech or artificial intelligence. Some are known, such is the case of Google, Facebook or AirBnB. E-commerce is another industry that also spawns unicorns.
In the top 10 unicorn companies, China leads the ranking. 5 of these companies belong to this country. First, it stands xiaohongshu, Chinese social network and C2C e-commerce platform. Has a current rating of $20 billion. then follows fans, online retailer of sports clothing and equipment. It has a lower rating than $18 billion. Third, it stands Shein with a rating of $15 billion. This has had an exponential growth in sales. It has reached rates above 200% in recent years, achieving total net sales of US$11 billion in 2021.
These three unicorns are among the top 20 in the overall ranking of 2022. It is also worth noting that not all are chinese or american. Such is the case of getir, Turkish fast delivery company. This is ranked number 8 with a rating of $7.5 million.
Getir’s rapid growth
Getir arrived in Spain just a few months ago and has already managed to capture the attention of a large part of the population.
