Gervonta Davis must decide

The World Boxing Association (WBA, in English) has been in the spotlight for many months. The body, based in Panama and the oldest of the four that sanction professional boxing, has been the center of criticism due to its management of the championships. In some divisions they had three world champions, which caused great confusion among the public. Criticisms from fans, from different media (some like World Boxing News stopped considering their titles as World Cups) and, above all, the threat from the Association of Athletic Commissions of the United States (the ABC conveyed to them its intention to prevent them from sanctioning fights in their territory if they did not change their criteria) made the organism reconsider.

The last month, the WBA has been reducing the champions of each division. Some movements he has been able to do already and others he has ordered. Thus, until the end of the year there will be many clashes between super champions and regular or interim champions. At the moment, no big names have been compromised. When you think about this reduction, there is a fighter who stands out above others: Gervonta davis. ‘Tank’, who in recent hours has made headlines for an accident with a plane, must make up his mind. The organism, as leaked ‘Boxing Scene’, he let you know last Friday and gave him a period of one week. Therefore, you must speak in the next few days.

Davis in the current super champion of the super featherweight (maximum rank) and you have the Regular belts (interim) in the lightweight and super lightweight. What the WBA wants is for Davis to decide his division. If he stays at 130 pounds, hopefully he will be forced to fight Roger Gutiérrez (who retained the Regular belt on August 14). In the meantime, if you prefer 135 or 140 pounds, he should be named an official candidate for either Teófimo López or Josh Taylor. Any fight would ignite the fans, but being both monarchs of the four organisms it could take time to get their turn. Or not. Everything will move in the offices, but for now Davis must step forward and choose.
