Germany, Spain Women’s Coaches in Tense Post-Match Handshake

A tense post-match exchange between the German and Spanish women’s national team coaches overshadowed their goalless draw in the first leg of the Nations League final.

Germany’s Christian Wück and Spain’s Sonia Bermúdez confronted each other following the 0-0 stalemate. Bermúdez approached Wück to shake hands but spoke some words, prompting Wück to gesture her away, speak in response, and point his finger.

Wück later described his reaction as “rage” stemming from incidents during the match. “They are emotions that happen during the game,” he told reporters. “If I had to go have coffee with her, I would.”

Bermúdez expressed confusion over the incident. “I cordially went to greet him and he reacted like that,” she said. “I can’t say much more. I also didn’t understand very well.”

The first leg of the Women’s Nations League final ended without goals, setting up a decisive second match. The return leg is scheduled for Tuesday, December 2.

Forward Cristina Martín-Prieto, who plays for Benfica, was not included in the squad for the initial game. She remains available as an option for the second leg.
