Germany News: The world’s first hydrogen-powered train has been launched in Germany. A fleet of 14 trains powered entirely by hydrogen has been successfully launched in the German state of Lower Saxony. This train will play an important role in reducing carbon gas in the environment. Five of the 14 trains manufactured by French company Alstom ran only on Wednesday and in the coming days they will replace 15 diesel trains which are currently running on the track here.

1 kg of hydrogen approximately the same as 4.5 kg of diesel

Alstom CEO Henri Popart-Lafarge said in a statement that just 1 kg of hydrogen is roughly the same as 4.5 kg of diesel. This train leaves no pollution, just makes little noise and emits steam and evaporated water. The specialty of this train is that it can travel up to 1000 km from a tank filled with hydrogen. The maximum speed of the train is 140 km/h.

The agreement was signed between the regional rail operator (LNVG) and Alstom for 93 million euros. Henry, CEO of Alstom, said, ‘We are very proud to launch this technology with our strong partners as the world premiere and it will prevent the release of 4,400 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere every year. From Tabres, a city in France, and central Germany, it employed 80 workers. This train was being tested from 2018. But now it is completely ready.
