German minister writes to EU on VAT exemption for gas levy

German Finance Minister Christian Lindner has written to the European Commission to waive the value-added tax on new gas prices for a limited period.

Germany has achieved the 75% gas stock target ahead of schedule. German gas storage facilities are more than 75 percent full, according to data from European operators group GIE.

Germany has 23.3 billion cubic meters (bcm) of underground gas reserves, slightly more than a fifth of the 100 bcm of gas it will use in 2021.
