German police chase Tesla for 15 minutes while the driver was sleeping

The German police arrested the driver of a Tesla vehicle who had fallen asleep at the wheel.

Bamberg traffic officers followed the electric vehicle for about 15 minutes on Wednesday as it drove along the country’s A70 highway, after being repeatedly signaled to stop with horns and sirens.

“The driver was driving on the A70 from Bamberg towards Bayreuth around midnight when the police patrol wanted to subject him to a traffic control”says the police launch. “He did not respond to stop signals or repeated beeps from agents.”

The Tesla vehicle maintained a constant speed of 110 kilometers per hour while the car’s driver was apparently asleep.

“Agents verified that the Tesla driver was reclining in the seat with his eyes closed and his hands off the steering wheel.says the police. “This reinforced the suspicion that he had left the controls to autopilot and fallen asleep.”

Tesla driver, 45, he eventually woke up and followed the police instructions. The police said the man “showed typical drug abnormalities during control.”

In addition, the police would have found a weight in the footwell of the vehicle. That weight is used to fool Tesla’s security systems into thinking the driver’s hands remain on the steering wheel so that Autopilot remains active, according to the police statement.

The police say that, after consulting the Hamburg Public Prosecutor’s Office, a complaint was filed against the driver for “endangering road traffic”.
