Gerardo Perdomo connects his fifth home run in the success of the D-Backs

Merrill Kelly struck out 10 and pitched effectively into the seventh inning, Corbin Carroll hit a two-run homer to help the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Boston Red Sox 4-2 on Sunday.

Carroll hit a two-run homer off Tanner Houck (3-4) in the first inning. Geraldo Perdomo added a solo shot in the second to give Kelly a 4-0 lead.

Kelly (6-3) matched his season high by striking out six without fanning, one shy of the Diamondbacks’ record. He allowed one run on four hits in 6 1/3 innings.

Justin Turner also hit a solo homer for Boston in the eighth off Kyle Nelson, but Miguel Castro worked around an infield single in the ninth for five saves in six chances.

Arizona had three hits in a 2-1 loss to Boston on Saturday night, but attacked Houck early.

Kelly has been sharp after a rocky start to the season, going 4-0 with a 2.61 ERA in his last five outings.

For Red Sox, Mexican Alex Verdugo 5-2 with an RBI.

For Diamondbacks, the Dominicans Ketel Marte 4-2 with a run scored, Geraldo Perdomo 3-1 with a run scored and an RBI. The Cuban Lourdes Gurriel Jr. from 4-2. The Venezuelan Gabriel Moreno from 3-1.
