The 39-year-old Thomas, affectionately known as ‘G,’ starred in the sixth and final stage of the British race. This stage covered 112.2 kilometers, starting at the velodrome named after him in Newport. It fittingly ended in his hometown of Cardiff. Before the race, Thomas rode a lap inside his namesake velodrome, with his young son Macsen, or ‘Macs,’ by his side. It was a truly special moment.

His fellow riders formed a touching guard of honor, holding their bikes high. This marked a truly memorable farewell for the decorated athlete. He shared the emotional goodbye with his family before getting on the saddle for the last time. During the race, he even tried to join a breakaway group, showing his competitive spirit until the very end. When he crossed the finish line, his peers gave him a standing ovation, a fitting tribute to a long and successful career.

Olav Kooij from Visma-Lease a Bike won this final stage. Meanwhile, the overall victory of the Tour of Great Britain went to Romain Grégoire of Groupama-FDJ. Remco Evenepoel, riding for Soudal Quick-Step, finished a close second overall, just two seconds behind Grégoire.

Several riders also left their mark on the race. Afonso Eulálio from Bahrain Victorious secured an impressive sixth place in the general classification. António Morgado, riding for UAE Emirates, was the best-placed Portuguese rider on the final day, finishing ninth with the same time as the stage winner. Rafael Reis, from the Anicolor-Tien21 team, earned the ‘most combative rider’ title the day before. He finished the final stage in 16th place, also matching the winner’s time.

Anicolor-Tien21, a third-tier global team, had a remarkable performance in the Tour of Great Britain. They finished as the second-best team overall, only behind the top-tier WorldTour team, Bahrain Victorious. Rubén Fernández, one of their Spanish riders, was their best in the general classification. He finished 16th overall, 42 seconds behind the champion Grégoire. It was a strong showing for the team and a memorable send-off for a cycling icon.
