Geraint Thomas has closed a 2022 season in which, without making much noise, he has shown that he can still continue fighting with the elite of the peloton at 36 years old, as he has shown with his overall victory in the Tour of Switzerland and his third place in the Tour de France.
Achievements that the Welsh Ineos cyclist wanted to highlight in an interview with the Cyclingnews portal, where he states that after what he has achieved this year he no longer has to prove anything to anyone. “It has been nice to participate this year in the Tour de France, many thought that I could not compete with the best. It always motivates you that you can do it and now I feel like I have nothing more to prove. It has been a great year for me and I have also competed in events such as Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Flecha Wallona and the Tour of the Basque Country, where I had barely competed before”.
A Thomas who, in this interview, also left open the possibility that 2023 will be his last year at Ineos and, perhaps, in the peloton as a professional. A season in which, in addition, Thomas could focus on the Giro d’Italia and give up the Tour de France. “We have not yet decided if it will be my last year at Ineos. It may be my last year as a professional and I want to make the most of it. I honestly don’t know if I’ll run the Tour, maybe I’ll run the Giro d’Italia.
