The great Uruguayan master Georg Meier
won the Continental Tournament of the Americas Absolute Chess
celebrated in style at the Emotion By Hodelpa hotel in this
city with a special dedication to the president of the republic Luis
Abinader Corona.
Meier managed to win the successful sporting event after scoring eight
victories, two draws and only one defeat adding nine points out of eleven
possible.
In the last round Meier managed to tie with the great Cuban master
Carlos Albornoz in a very close game from the beginning to the end
final.
The Cubano Alborroz had to settle for second place with 8.5
while the third position was occupied by the great Cuban master who
Fidel Corrales plays for the United States, who equalized in the final round
with Chilean GM Cristobal Henríquez.
Americans Josiah Stearman and Kirk Gasharian achieved the
fourth and fifth rungs, Cristobal Henríquez occupied the seventh place in
so much so that Gregory Kaidanov who dominated the first eight rounds of the
event finished in seventh place.
The most outstanding Dominicans in the last round were Josué
Araujo who defeated the great Master of the United States Robert Hungaski,
José Manuel Domínguez engaged with the Jamaican Christie Joshua and
Cristopher Guzmán prevailed over the Colombian Cristie Chiviri.
The president of the Dominican Chess Federation Pedro Domínguez
Brito accompanied by José Gabriel Jaquez, president of the committee
organizer and Braulio Ramírez handed out cash prizes to the
most outstanding athletes in the sports fair.
The successful sporting event will continue today with the realization of a
fast tournament with the participation of the best chess players that
participate in the sports fair.
