Patrick Vieira has been sacked as head coach of Genoa, just nine matches into the Serie A season, after leading the club to its worst start in history and the bottom of the Italian league table.
Genoa CFC confirmed the decision on Saturday. The club announced Roberto Murgita would take over on an interim basis, assisted by Domenico Criscito.
The former French international departs with Genoa in 20th and last place. The team secured only three points from three draws and six defeats.
This record represents the poorest start to a season in the club’s entire history.
Vieira, who joined Genoa last season, is the second coach to be dismissed in the 2025/26 Serie A campaign.
His departure follows the dismissal of Igor Tudor from Juventus earlier in the week.
Genoa is scheduled to play 10th-place Sassuolo on Monday in its next league fixture.
