The Mid-Season Invitational (MSI 2025) wrapped up this past Saturday with a showdown that had everyone on the edge of their seats. Two giants of League of Legends, T1 and Gen.G, battled it out in the grand final. This best-of-five series delivered plenty of drama, capping off the second major international LoL tournament of the year.
Gen.G walked onto the virtual stage with a remarkable streak on the line. They were hoping to extend their impressive run of 22 series wins without a loss. Standing in their way was T1, led by Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, widely considered the best player in the game’s history. T1 aimed to dethrone the reigning MSI champions, who also happen to be South Korea’s top team.

The early games hinted at a T1 victory. They pulled ahead with a 1-0 lead and even went up 2-1 in the series. But Gen.G wasn’t about to give up their crown. They are known for their resilience and showed exactly why they are a favorite to win it all. Despite facing T1’s star power, Gen.G mounted a stunning comeback, taking both game four and the decisive fifth game. This victory secured them the championship trophy.

Winning this final pushed Gen.G’s consecutive series win streak to 23. This places them firmly among the top teams with the longest streaks in League of Legends history. They are now just behind PSG Talon, who had 24 wins in 2021, and G2 Esports, who also hit 24 wins in 2022. The all-time record still belongs to Chiefs Esports Club, who amassed 26 straight wins in 2022.

Beyond the glory of the title, Gen.G secured a substantial prize: $500,000. They also earned a direct spot in the upcoming Worlds 2025, the game’s biggest global championship. This marks Gen.G’s second MSI title, making them part of an exclusive club. They now stand alongside T1 (formerly SKT), who also hold two MSI trophies. Only Royal Never Give Up has more, with a total of three championships.
